Last week, ConnectHomeUSA hosted a College Signing Day event for San Antonio teens with celebrity ambassador Michael Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals Defensive End). The event, hosted by Cafe College, was a collaboration between ConnectHomeUSA, College Board, the National College Access Network, and the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA). College Signing Day recognized the hard work of high school seniors from SAHA and the wider San Antonio area who had taken advantage of the free SAT test preparation resources that College Board had provided through their partnership with ConnectHomeUSA. The captivating event saw representatives from partner organizations give brief remarks, after which Michael gave the teens insights into how education has impacted his life and how technology could take them even further.

The teens themselves were undoubtedly the highlight of the event. The excited youth participated in a photo op with Michael and announced where they had chosen to attend college. They also shared with the audience their experiences with College Board’s resources and how consistent practice with those tools had impacted their academic trajectories. One of the teens, Jackson, shared his testimony of how College Board’s resources had empowered him to increase his SAT score by an astounding 200 points. Another student, Seth, shared how working hard and using the tools provided through College Board enable him to overcome his learning disability and fulfill his dream of attending McMurry University.
